Attitudes and Acceptability of Organ and Tissue Donation Registration in the Emergency Department: A National Survey of Emergency Nurses

Worldwide, there is a shortage of organs for transplantation. The number people listed on organ donation registries can possibly be increased by promoting registration in emergency departments. We administered national survey to assess nurses’ attitudes and feelings offering patients’ information registering become an donor the department, as well immediate opportunity register. had 130 (10.2%) responses. Of these, 61.5% nurses feel that department acceptable location promote registration. Additionally, 58.4% appropriate setting offer patients visitors register tissue while they await medical care. identified several facilitators barriers potential intervention such public importance increasing rates, recognition willingness help others, strong institutional culture. Some were also identified, time constraints departmental efficiency flow. found 80% report personally registered donors. This study reveals Canadian are very engaged supportive majority ED venue donation. However, specific mechanism which approached staff regarding remains unclear.
